快餐行業的競爭一向比較激烈,很難有什么產品或者技術上的突破性創新去打破這種競爭格局,市場細分或者是價格區隔的空間其實也都不大。除了產品上的效仿和跟進,廣告上經常“搞搞事情”也很正常。畢竟,良性的競爭可以相互借力,共同拓寬市場份額。這也是漢堡王采取營銷戰略大師杰克·特勞特建議其對麥當勞實施攻擊策略的原因。

近期,不安分的漢堡王又將目標瞄準了麥當勞。據 2017 年數據統計,美國有超過 14000 家麥當勞和大約 7200 家漢堡王。如何利用對手的優勢,將其成功轉化為自己的“流量”?于是,漢堡王在美國發起了這場 #The Whopper Detour 為皇堡繞路#的營銷戰役。

漢堡王通過對美國 14000+ 麥當勞進行地理定位,當消費者進入距離任何一家麥當勞門店 600 英尺范圍內,并下載了漢堡王的最新應用程序,就能解鎖到1美分的皇堡。

如果消費者按照漢堡王 App 內提示操作并成功訂單,應用程序就會把顧客導航到最近的漢堡王門店去取他們的皇堡。

為此,漢堡王不僅在 Waze 地圖上購買廣告植入,還為麥當勞重新設計了戶外廣告指示牌,將麥當勞的 "Billions Served(為無數消費者服務)"更改為 "Billions Swerved(無數人在此轉彎)"。

"The Whopper Detour" 的創意由 FCB 紐約提出,戰役周期從12月4號到12號只有短短9天而已,本身并沒有消耗太多的成本,只是在漢堡王的 App 上進行了一些“調整”,其目的是鼓勵人們下載漢堡王最新的應用程序。

據悉,自去年8月份以來,漢堡王的應用已經在全美范圍內實現了移動下單和支付。現在這場營銷戰役漢堡王想要以一種比較“典型”的方式來推廣它。

而這種“典型”的推廣方式,也反映出漢堡王對競品策略的改變——不僅僅是停留在相互較勁的層面,而是盡可能地把對方的流量和品牌聲量轉化為自己可以借助的力量,盡可能實現預期導流效果。

為了實現客戶信息的留存,漢堡王沒有采取免費的形式,而是選擇1美分出售皇堡。這樣可以避免部分顧客只下載應用而不注冊的現象,從而更好的指導以后的營銷活動。

不斷的攻擊對手,蹭麥當勞的熱度,漢堡王早已輕車熟路。今年 "McHappy Day"(麥樂日),阿根廷漢堡王當天拒絕為消費者提供皇堡,而是建議他們去麥當勞購買巨無霸,因為當天所有巨無霸的銷售款項都會捐贈給癌癥預防基金會。追溯到 2015 年,漢堡王在國際和平日向麥當勞發出邀請共同打造 "McWhopper"(麥皇堡),所銷售的 McWhopper 將進行慈善募捐。此舉獲得了公眾的廣泛支持,并拿下 2016 年戛納創意節全場大獎。
